On TCG

I'm dusting off this thing to get something off my chest! I play a lot of games. Some of them are tcg "Trading card games" I end up playing online alot. so I inevitably come across this problem. Where a guy wants to rocket through the game.

WHY IN THE NAME OF HEAVENLY FUCK WOULD YOU WANT TO FLY THROUGH A TWENTY MINUTE CARD GAME IN THE SPACE OF FIVE MINUTES OR LESS!?

This is a problem in the real world too. Where people build decks to win in one or two turns... sure if you're playing in a tourney with no audience that might be a good idea but if you're like me and you play for fun you want your matches to last and mean something. You spent time building your deck, your strategy, to play against friendly people and have fun. Why on earth would anyone want to zip through a game at the speed of light. You might as well not bother with wasting your time on it.

I like long protracted battles where the winner is decided by an overarching strategy or even just dumb luck in the end, not BAMBAMBAM I win.

Reason I'm posting this is that I was playing on a BYOND app for Cardfight Vanguard. It was my turn and instead of playing it out my opponent said "Eh fuck it" and just took damage then proceeded with his next turn. I may have dealt MORE damage than he had taken because of one of the game mechanics (I'll not go into detail for the benefit of the Vanguard laymen out there).

The problem with speed decking is most apparent in Yugioh because unlike Vanguard it is designed to be capable of ending in a single turn. While, yeah, that turn may take five to ten minutes because of all the effects in the end you're left with one guy who just spent about as much time rifling through his cards as he did when he built the deck and one who didn't get to play at all. This problem happens in real life, not just online. Go down to a game or comic shop and watch the card gamers if you don't believe me.

Can you imagine if movies were like that? Five minutes and it's over. People would be pissed.

Also call me naive or whatever but with games like Yu-Gi-Oh and Vanguard I like to get dramatic, play up the vibe from their shows. I'll announce that the card I'm playing is my avatar and that it'll kick your ass in as flowery dialogue as I can. Why? BECAUSE IT'S FUCKIN FUN!

So to the card gamers of the world I beg you... SIT DOWN AND ENJOY THE GOD-DAMNED GAME!

P.S. : Some friendly advice to the makers of Yu-Gi-Oh. I have four words: Limit. Cards. Per. Turn.
